Driving on the WRONG (left) side of the road

I keep pinching myself and wondering, am I really here?

Today I learned that in Auckland you can experience 4 seasons in one day. This morning it was absolutely pouring rain and nasty and so foggy that you couldn't even see the sky tower. But then around noon it all started to clear up and we had bright sunny skies the rest of the afternoon! Check out the views on the Sky Tower...pretty awesome!

So, with sunny skies overhead I rented a car from Lucy at JUCY (because really, with a name/spokeswoman like that, why would I go anywhere else) and began the driving adventure. I discovered that the GPS I hauled all the way from the US won't even turn on, but felt so much better when a cab driver asked me if I was okay when he saw me reading the map at a stop light. No wrong turns today (but tomorrow's a new day and I'm sure that will change). Check out "el cheapo" Nissan Sunny, my new car for the year.

Thankfully it comes with that nice sticker to remind me to drive on the wrong side of the road.

The adventure has begun! Reporting to the hospital in the am to get small details like a work visa taken care of. In the meanwhile, loving the sunsets in Auckland!

And the rising moon!

Touchdown in Auckland

So, on May 30, 2010, as I slept aboard my Air New Zealand flight, I skipped a day of my life, crossed the Pacific Ocean, and awoke halfway around the world. And I wasn't even dreaming! Even better my old + new friends, Lauren, Chip and Brett greeted me at the airport and treated me to a yummy breakfast as the sun came up. No rain today!

I feel like the first day must always pass in a blur, but I got settled into my temporary home at Chip's awesome apartment and walked along the waterfront of Mission Bay with Lauren and got to see a beautiful sunset. A spectacular first day!
